Explorers note sentient life on Tau Ceti II and Terra for future first-contact missions. 1750 BCE Kentauran explorer ships make first contact with the Kha'Miir, who open fire on the Kentauran vessels with no warning. The Republic of Kentaurus declares war. 1746 BCE Kentauran fleetships methodically destroy and disarm the defenses of the Kha'Miir home system and occupy the Kha'Miir homeworld. 1500 BCE First Kentauran encounter with a Na'Tari entity. 1495 BCE A Na'Tari fleet attacks Kentaurus Prime and the occupied Kha'Miir homeworld. Kentauran fleets defend their own homeworld; the Kha'Miir homeworld is overrun and destroyed before Kentaurus can organize an evacuation or defense of the system. 1290 BCE The Na'Tari launch another offensive against Kentaurus Prime. A fleet of unknown ships enters Kentaurus system and attacks the Na'Tari vessels. Kentaurus Prime establishes first contact with the Al'Tari and agrees to an alliance. 1050 BCE The Al'Tari establish an outpost colony at the bottom of Earth's Atlantic Ocean. The Republic of Kentaurus establishes scientific research colonies in Sirius and Procyon systems. 750 BCE Kentauran explorer ships establish first contact with the Ak'Khara. The Ak'Khara agree to a sharing of knowledge and culture, but do not sign a full-fledged alliance with Kentaurus Prime. Kentauran colony ships settle on Epsilon Eridani V. 440 BCE Na'Tari warships attack an Ak'Khara colony in the Altair system and destroy it. Kentauran vessels aid in the defense of the Ak'Khara homeworld from Na'Tari attack. Al'Tari starships lead the successful defense of Kentaurus Prime. 430 BCE The Ak'Khara discontinue contact with the Republic of Kentaurus, based on the belief that death follows the Kentauran race. Kentaurus begins a terraforming effort on the decimated world in Altair system. 425 BCE The Na'Tari once again attack the Ak'Khara homeworld, this time destroying it. A small Na'Tari force attacks the Al'Tari outpost on Earth and is repulsed. The Al'Tari abandon the outpost for fear bringing harm upon Earth's inhabitants. Another Na'Tari fleet destroys the Kentauran colony in Epsilon Eridani. 25 CE The Al'Tari withdraw from known space in the hope that the Na'Tari will follow them. 50 CE A Na'Tari armada passes near Kentaurus Prime in pursuit of the Al'Tari. A contingent of the armada assaults Kentaurus Prime. The Kentauran fleet repels the assault. A Kentauran defense outpost in Luyten 726 system is destroyed, and all hands killed, in a Na'Tari attack. 900 Kentauran explorer ships have charted every star within a 30 light-year radius; no other sentient species are found. 1450 The Ceti become spacefaring and begin exploration of their home system. 1485 Kentauran explorer ships enter Tau Ceti system and make first contact with the Ceti. 1540 The Na'Tari launch another campaign against the Republic of Kentaurus. Tau Ceti II is rendered almost barren from a Na'Tari assault, and the Kentauran research colony in Sirius system is destroyed. The Ceti lose the spacefaring technology they had gained only ninety years ago. A Na'Tari force attempts to attack Kentaurus Prime and is destroyed outright; the Na'Tari then vanish as quickly as they had appeared. 1550 The Kentaurans terraform Tau Ceti III and relocate enough of the Ceti population there that both worlds can sustain their populations, then withdraw to Kentaurus Prime to rebuild their system's defenses. 1850 The Ceti regain spacefaring capability; Tau Ceti III begins exporting food supplies to Tau Ceti II, and the two worlds' governments merge into the Ceti Alliance. 1889 Almost all the Kentauran fleet is mothballed; the resources once spent on upkeep of the fleet are redirected to research and development of existing technologies and preparing for future Na'Tari assaults. 1907 The Ceti send an exploratory ship at relativistic, sublight speed to Kentaurus Prime to re-establish contact with the Republic of Kentaurus. 1914 First Terran World War begins. 1918 First Terran World War ends. 1925 Ceti explorer vessel arrives in Kentaurus Prime and reestablishes contact with the Kentauran government. The Ceti establish an embassy on Kentaurus Prime and allow the Kentauran government to set up an embassy on Tau Ceti II. 1936 First high-powered television transmission is broadcast from Earth. 1939 Second Terran World War begins. 1940 Earth's radio transmissions reach Kentaurus Prime. 1945 Second Terran World War ends. Ceti FTL scoutships find a habitable world in the Altair system. 1947 Earth's radio transmissions reach Tau Ceti. 1955 Terra gains spacefaring capability. First Ceti colony ship arrives on Altair VI and establishes a colony there. 1969 First Terran walks on Luna's surface. 2010 Earth's governments begin to consolidate, continent-by-continent. The number of Terran governments is 136. 2015 First Lunar colony is established. First Terran walks on Mars. 2030 First Martian colony is established. 2040 The number of Terran governments is three - the Eurasian Pact, the United States of the New World, and Free Africa. 2050 The Eurasian Pact and USNW merge to form the Global Union. Free Africa remains independent despite heavy pressure from the other two governments. 2075 Research begins on the creation of the Altered, a race of beings created from the DNA of various plant and animal species. 2078 Free Africa and Global Union forces clash in the Arabian Peninsula. Free Africa troops advance into the Sinai Peninsula and take Jerusalem. The two governments reach a peace settlement which gives Free Africa the territory it had conquered. 2085 The first generation of Altered are created in government research labs in Ottawa and Montreal. 2088 Terran scientists create and test a prototype Trans-Dimensional drive. Trans-D technology becomes available to the Global Defense Force. 2090 The Africa War begins after two Global Defense Force naval vessels are destroyed in the Gulf of Sidra; the Altered are deployed into Africa as soldiers, spies, and assassins for the Global Defense Force. 2091 The Africa War ends; the Altered are moved into holding camps within the conquered continent. The Free Africa government is dissolved. News of the Altered's existence leaks to the press. 2092 Among protests on both sides of the issue, the Altered are neither released as citizens or killed as the Global Defense Force had originally planned; instead, they are moved to prepared concentration camps on Luna, and begin a slow integration into Terran society as second-class citizens. 2106 Trans-D technology becomes publicly available. Artificial satellites are set in place throughout Sol system to enable near-instantaneous communication between any two points in the system. Radio transmissions from Earth cease. 2117 Admiral Thomson creates the Terran Explorers Initiative (TEI) and begins mobilizing the Global Navy for a series of manned and unmanned exploration missions. 2120 Unmanned explorers are sent from Sol system at a substantial fraction of lightspeed to Alpha Centauri, Altair, Tau Ceti, and other systems. A technical malfunction weeks after launch causes the TEI teams to lose contact with the Tau Ceti-bound craft. 2125 Global Defense Force marines, under the command of Admiral James Thomson, attempt to destroy the Altered concentration camps. The Altered escape before the camps can be destroyed. Admiral Thomson is court-martialed, but escapes to parts unknown before the court martial is concluded. 2126 The Altered set up an independent colony on Europa and rename themselves Al'Tari. Most Al'Tari withdraw to Europa to join the new colony, though some remain behind and found the city of New Atlantis, on the floor of the Atlantic Ocean. Still others remain a part of Terran society, albeit with more rights and privileges than before Europa's foundation. Akira Tenaka takes command of the Global Defense Force. 2127 The TEI probe bound for Alpha Centauri broadcasts evidence of intelligent life to Earth. Admiral Tenaka orders a manned expedition; Terrans make first contact with the Republic of Kentaurus. The Global Defense Force is renamed to the Terran Defense Force. 2129 The Ceti government loses contact with the Altair colony. When ships arrive to investigate, they can find no evidence the colony ever existed. 2132 In Altair, the TEI probe discovers the same habitable world the Ceti had found 180 years ago. The Terran Parliament authorizes a colony expedition to the world. 2134 A Terran colony ship arrives in Altair and establishes the New Earth colony. 2135 Ceti scoutships discover the Terran colony in Altair and skirmish with New Earth forces. The Ceti government, made to believe Terra is responsible for the destruction of their colony, mobilize for war. The Terran government begins upgrading its own defenses, both in Sol and Altair systems. 2137 Construction of Winter Base begins near Pluto. 2140 Earth begins shipping materials into Proxima Centauri as the first stage for construction of a space station. 2142 Construction of Proxima Station begins. 2144 Admiral Tenaka commissions the Russian Winter project. 2145 The New Earth colony is attacked and destroyed. Earth correlates the attack with earlier hostilities against Ceti forces and blames Tau Ceti for the attack. The Terran Parliament declares war on Tau Ceti. 2146 A Ceti fleet blitzkriegs Kentaurus system and occupies Kentaurus Prime. Proxima Station becomes operational and is renamed Providence Station. A Ceti armada enters Sol system and heads for Earth. Terran scouts recon Tau Ceti system, destroy the largest Ceti fleetyard in the system, and bring back their reconnaisance information.
