Twenty years before its construction, Providence Station was written and spoken of in Al'Tari prophecies. As with other legacies left by the Al'Tari before their exodus from Sol, few humans gave this prophecy any attention. One of those few was Akira Tenaka, Admiral of the Terran Defense Force, who laid the station's foundation with the allied Republic of Kentaurus in 2142.

Construction of Providence Station quickened after New Earth's destruction in 2145 and the subsequent declaration of war against Tau Ceti. During this time, Terran carrier groups, led by the Prometheus and Galahad, maintained a rotating vigil of the construction site in the Proxima System. The construction went undisturbed until a few hours before the station's christening, days after the station's defensive systems were brought online.

Both Proxima System and Sol System now face the Ceti threat. A faction of the Ceti fleet that occupies Kentaurus Prime has laid siege to Providence Station, disrupting the lines of communication and supply between the station and Terra. A vast Ceti armada moves like a juggernaut toward Terra, slowed only by its massive size. Though a part of their vast fleet has disengaged and returned home in response to Drake Squadron's successful raid, humanity's fate remains uncertain.
