After the destruction of the New Earth colony in the Altair system, the only star systems within 25 light-years of Earth known to be inhabited are Sol, Rigil Kentaurus, and Tau Ceti. Other stars once held colonies or were home to advanced spacefaring civilizations, but the Na'Tari have destroyed most of these worlds. Other systems were once home to Terran Republic outposts, but some of these were lost in skirmishes between the Terrans and Ceti before New Earth's destruction.
