Ross 154

Terran explorer ships first entered the Ross 154 system in 2130 in a Terran Defense Force initiative to explore and chart nearby systems. The TDF established an outpost in the system in 2131. The outpost served as a waypoint to more distant star systems until February 2136, when advancements in Trans-D technology allowed ships to jump up to 30 light-years with a single threshold.

Ross 154 is an M-class red dwarf star approximately 1 billion years old that shines with only 0.05 percent of Sol's brightness. Because of the slow rate at which M-class stars burn, Ross 154 is expected to shine for more than 50 billion years. The system has no planets larger than the dwarf planet Pluto and several dwarf planets roughly equal in size to Ceres (about 500 km diameter).

The Ross 154 Outpost was built into one of these dwarf planets. In addition to serving as a waypoint for ships to and from New Earth, the outpost also conducted research missions, including projects to treat and cure cancer and other medical ailments, as well as classified military projects into the fields of trans-dimensional sensors and weaponry. The latter projects are suspected to have drawn the attention of the Ceti, who destroyed the outpost in April 2136.
