Alexander Mackenzie has ascended to command of Providence Station after a 33-year career in the Global/Terran Defense Force. His ability to integrate crews and keep his judgment in crisis situations have served him well throughout this history, from his first assignment as navigation officer aboard the GDS Avalon, through his role in the Kentauran First Contact and a four-year-command of Liberty Station in Sol System. When then-Commander Mackenzie acquainted himself with the command crew of Providence Station, he learned of a conflict that raged far beneath the surface of the Terran government--a shadow war waged between Terran Intelligence and the people loyal to Admiral Tenaka. When this conflict exploded into the open, Mackenzie pulled the station through the crisis not only with minimal damage, but also with a pleasant surprise waiting for Admiral Tenaka a couple days later.
Nephryl is the only daughter born the Kentauran Matriarch, Neprhal. As the only daughter, she is heir to the ubiquitous role. This position demanded that she mature into the role well ahead of time, and the young Kentauran woman has risen to the occasion. Her background of work at the Terran Embassy on Kentaurus, as well as training she underwent even before the Terran First Contact, have given her an understanding of Terran culture unparalleled among Kentaurans. Nephryl prefers her home environment to Terra, believing the world to be too cold and too gloomy for most Kentaurans. Her quarters on Providence Station reflect her taste for her home environment; a touch of sorrow can be seen in her deep eyes when she gazes upon the twin stars now forbidden to her and to those Kentaurans who made it off-world before the Occupation.
Thomas Devenson is the son of Global Defense Force Colonel Tim Devenson, a pilot noted for his role in the Tycho Colony Incident. Thus far, Thomas Devenson's career as a fighter pilot has parallelled his father's; whereas Tim Devenson's actions saved the lives of thousands of Al'Tari refugees twenty years ago, Thomas Devenson's actions have more recently saved the lives of thousands of Kentauran and human refugees from the blitzkrieged Kentaurus system and coordinated the effort to save several thousand Ceti refugees during the Sekhmet incident. There, the similarities between father and son end--and make it likely that Thomas Devenson will outshine his father in Terran history records. At thirty-two, Thomas was the second-youngest fighter pilot in the history of the Global/Terran Defense Force to make the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Admiral Tenaka recommended Thomas for the Proxima System assignment, allowed him to draft pilots from other fighter squadrons to create the First Proxima Space Superiority Wing, and recommended him for promotion to Colonel commensurate with his new assignment. Thomas maintains a boyish and mischievous demeanor outside the cockpit of his Puma-class aerostar fighter, as well as in the cockpit as well when circumstances allow. In combat, however, his demeanor is as cold as the space around him. He is one of the most prolific aces in the Terran Defense Force, having accounted for over forty confirmed fighter kills and three capital ship kills.
Bruce's career in the Terran Defense Force has been a long and stable one. Most notable is his service with Alexander Mackenzie aboard the GDS Avalon five years after then-Lieutenant J.G. Mackenzie had signed aboard. The two officers both played pivotal roles in rescuing survivors from the Ross 154 installation six hours after a Ceti attack had leveled the base. Bruce's history with Alex led Alex to reccomend Bruce as second-in-command of the station.
Kim Masterson is a haunted woman. Much of her career lies underneath a blanket of Infrared-Level security; and the burden of these secrets has left its marks on the young woman. Until a year ago, Kim's career in the Terran Defense Force was on a standard track. She proved to have a knack for weapons guidance systems, and soon found herself moving around to help coordinate the computer systems at locations such as Liberty Station and the Olympus Mons Fleet Yards. Her work was good enough to attract the personal attention of Admiral Tenaka, who assigned her to the Russian Winter project shortly after a thorough study of her records. Very little about Project Russian Winter is shared to anyone--its very existence is little more than rumor to the general public. Until Kim Masterson, no one who was assigned to the Russian Winter project left the project. Kim Masterson is the first person ever to have been transferred out of the project. What Kim saw while inside Project Russian Winter, or what she did there, is a matter best left to highly-classified documents. Obvious, however, is the strain it has placed upon her mind and her spirit. How she would deal with this strain and with whom she would share it when she transferred out were top concerns of Admiral Tenaka's. It is one of many reasons she is now under Captain Mackenzie's command as Providence Station's tactical officer.
Kalis Hansen is the chief of Terran Intelligence on Providence Station ... and one of Admiral Akira Tenaka's greatest assets in his clandestine conflict against Terran Intel. One of a handful of survivors of the Ceti attack on Ross 154, she holds a fierce hatred of the Ceti for their role in killing her then-husband, John Vilneaux, and their unborn child. Kalis first gained notoriety through her actions and those of her subordinates during the Ti'Shan Incident in October 2138. Admiral Tenaka subsequently relieved her of command and assigned her to xenobiology cataloguing on the New Earth colony. Terran Intelligence recruited her while she was on New Earth. As she learned more about the organization, she came to realize the threat it posed to the Terran government. She has since then reforged a tenuous working relationship with the admiral, helping him gain information about Terran Intel activities about which he otherwise would not be privy.
Robert Peters transferred to Providence Station from the Terran Embassy on Kentaurus Prime, where he was an aide to Ambassador Nephryl. He and Nephryl cemented a close relationship on the Kentauran homeworld and have worked to re-forge that relationship in the aftermath of the Kentaurus Evacuation. Robert's experience with the Kentauran language and culture make him the ideal communications officer for a station which will hopefully, in time, serve as a major conduit for Terran and Kentauran traffic between the two systems.
Lieutenant Hebert coordinates the various operations of Proxima's SystemNet, which serves as the eyes and ears of Providence Station. Sensor systems were his special field of operations out of the San Diego Defense Academy; during his stay at the Academy he formulated improvements to the SolarNet--Sol System's satellite network--that increased the effeciency and bandwidth of the Net by 30 percent. Providence Station is his second assignment; while Will looks forward to the job that faces him in Proxima System, he regrets that it takes him so far from his home on Mars.
